In Reflections, Can We Trust?

We can do a lot from learning about life being transient; life is a fleeting moment that leads to the realm unknown. The journey from point A to B is regretful if your only thoughts are about getting to your desired point B. If you make the most out of that journey, starting from A then maximizing each moment until you get to B, then there shouldn't be anything to regret once you're there. You've given it your all and you enjoyed the ride.

Point B is always imagined as the pinnacle in life. This is the dream that people strive for. Success, prosperity, salvation, and many other forms of this proverbial point B takes us to most issues that grip this world. Just think about every issue that rules this earth and you'll see that it is almost always about the dispute between means for an end. However, once that end is reached, what is left?

The point B in life has and will always be death. This is the inevitability that can be unsettling in any given scenario. Anyone who talks about death is usually deemed crazy or weird by most people. However, I have somehow detached myself from actually feeling bad about being insulted in this level because nowadays, I really can't care any less. I have come to realize that while everyone think that they're preparing to live, they're actually preparing to die. This is the plot of this journey - every story ends.

Anything can be possible with this journey. As long as you do three things - not hurt anyone, give back what you receive, and not stay at one place for too long, you can achieve a higher level of consciousness. This is not about religious dribble or spiritual mysticism, but about a brighter outlook in life.

Sadly, not many people have that transient state of mind where they would keep on flowing, no matter what happens to them in life. They hold on to their own safeties and amusements because they are afraid of the feeling of loss.

If you've ever been robbed or have lost something valuable, then you should know what I'm talking about. I myself have experienced this multiple times, so much so that I have come to a conclusion. Whether I lose that thing or not, all that really changes is my state of mind. As long as I stay alive, all I ever lost is that object, but never my identity. If I would just think positive and work to gain something else, then pleasant surprises can come into my life and help me progress further.

This is why the majority have their foothold on what is said to be the trend. The greatest loss for most people is their place in society and the security of belonging somewhere. We watch television, read magazines, gossip about politics and celebrities, and so on because as long as we feel amused, we feel secure. Once we are bored, we don't know what to do with ourselves. The safest and easiest way to do so is to go with the template - to go with what everybody else is doing.

However, there are those who go against this way of doing things. They see things differently and refuse to ride along with it. There are two reasons for this behavior - either he/she has seen something that makes that trend unreasonable or just for the sake of not wanting to do what everybody else is doing. Either this course of actions is from the free-spirited decision of a liberated soul or from the stiff immature judgment of a person in denial, it can only be known by the individual. In fact, if it really is the latter, then that person might not even realize his/her own reasons and just refuses for the sake of refusing.

True strength and understanding comes from three things, I have realized. To become totally honest with oneself, to not be too attached to anything in life, and to accept the inevitability of reaching the real point B, which is death. The latter two can be optional as it's usually too much for most people. However, the first one is the most important. To emphasize my point, it is imperative to gain self-honesty.

The mirror never tells the whole story. It only reflects what the light is able to reflect. Therefore, a lot of people who think that they know everything about themselves may actually not because they may have looked at the mirror when the light was dim. Perhaps, we should also focus on that light.

Being honest with oneself is knowing about one's strengths and weaknesses without any blemish of either ego or self-pity. There is no sign of greed, pride, or envy whatsoever and everything is taken into account. This process of self-realization is not just to merely humble, but also to gain the ability to become a better person. This level of self-awareness is elusive, but can change many things, both in the individual and the people around him/her.

A maverick who realizes his/her own true nature can no longer be a rebel without a cause.
